I don't think it is. This music/lyrics were written long before the third Reich appeared and were usually meant as a drinking song and what beautiful women Germany has and delicious wine.

Well, officially it is now only the third part. But that song was meant as a drinking song written 1840 on some British Island I think, so I don't see any symbolism to the 3rd Reich. They just used the song for a while. That first part that Peter sang. :naughty:

Now, let's replace the word "song" with the word "swastika"...
"They just used the swastika for a while."

These are two different things in my eyes. You can not really compare this. I would personally not sing the first line of the 'Deutschlandlied' though either, I just wanted to tickle Peter with it.

They used so many German songs, practically every song that existed back then. Think of the Marschmusik.
These first lines are not forbidden, too. This song was our own anthem for almost 90 years before them.
The swastika is not very common here at all and mostly known for the nazi symbol in the western cultures. :naughty:

The point is, you're contradicting yourself.
First, you're telling people it's a bad thing to draw swastikas on faces because of the connection with nazi Germany.
Now you're in this thread talking about how you see no connection between this song and the 3rd Reich and how nazi Germany just "used the song for a while".

It's exactly the same thing, they used the song and they used the swastika.. And both of them have a connection with Hitler and the 3rd Reich...

I just see it the same way our law sees it as it seems.
Maybe no connection was a bit wrong, but then you can not sing any of the songs the nazis liked to sing, which were most of the German folk songs.

The swastika was not our very own symbol for 90 years. The song was. That is the difference. No one from the common people knew about it before until it became the nazi symbol.

And the question was if Peter meant the swastika OR the nazi symbol for Carl. It is weird that only 2 days later there is the same reference to a 'nazi related' songpart (like you think and the papers disliked it too).
For once Peter is protesting against the hype about our debate or he is trying to provokate.

all this hullabaloo about it - although actually nothin' "bad" happened.

and all three strophes have never been the anthem of the 3rd Reich...
it has been the first one followed by this song about this one guy - can't recall any futher knowledge

mmh, all three were the anthem from 1922 - 1933.
